MCB Series Butt Splicer
Overview:
The Martin Cantilevered Butt Splicer (model MCB) is the most recent addition to Martin's family of automatic butt splicers. Combining the advantages and technology from three popular butt splicers (models MBS, CECB and MTB), the Martin MCB Splicer is an industry standard among printers and converters who run materials with web widths up to 32 inches.
The Martin MCB Splicer contains two, in-line cantilevered roll spindle assemblies separated by a splice unit and accompanied by a free-standing storage festoon. The patented splice unit delivers angled butt splices with two-inch-wide tape on one or both sides of the splice. The tension-control storage festoon features Martin's inertia-compensated, multiple-roller dancer.
Martin's patented "lift and load system" allows "in-aisle" loading of new stock rolls. At the touch of a button, the spindle assembly traverses out of the unwind stand and extends through the core of a roll positioned in the "aisle." Spindle inflation, raise/lower, and extend/retract functions are operated from conveniently located control panels. Because rolls are lifted only inches off the floor, there is no need for auxiliary roll-loading equipment, as with roll-over-roll or turret unwind stands.
Operator platforms and a unique "walk-in" splice unit provide easy access to splice preparation and web-up areas. Interlocked Lexan guarding prevents splice initiation during preparation procedures.
Each MCB Splicer can have an optional "tail-grabber" (optical) and automatic (diameter-calculated) splice initiation capabilities. These splice initiation methods offer incomparable quality and versatility in splicing and waste management. Tail-grabber splicing initiates the splice sequence when the running web runs off the expiring roll core. Automatic splicing initiates the splice when the running roll reaches a preset diameter.
